Our final class of our Lenten session was on Peacebuilding. We were very moved by both the need of forgiveness as part of peacebuilding and the intersectionality of peacebuilding. It was fitting to explore peace as we remembered Christ coming on a peaceable donkey into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. One of the things we learned about was the Elie Wiesel Genocide and Atrocities Prevention Act of 2018. This act instructs the state department to train it’s foreign service officers to be ready to respond to the early warning signs in a society to prevent acts of war.
On Easter Sunday as we bless our the items we have collected for the Woodstock pantry we will also bless kits for refugees which we helped contribute to this fall. Acts of welcome and care are steps of peacebuilding and so once again it was fitting to finish out our Lenten study in this way.
