A creative collaboration between Trinity United Methodist Church and Sellwood Faith Community

Our community exists to embody the love of God in our world because we believe everyone needs a safe space to be loved for who they are already.

Trinity began in 1958 when the Woodstock and Clinton-Kelly Methodist Churches joined together to create a new community at the corner of 39th and Steele in southeast Portland. They named the new church Trinity, claiming the theology of three in one. Today Trinity is part of a new three pronged community, the Southeast Portland Parish. This willingness to join together and be part of other communities has created a deep understanding of hospitality and the power of relationship at Trinity. The welcome folks receive on Sunday morning is born of genuine interest in each person we encounter. While members of the church often describe it as a family, it is one in which all are welcomed as kin and you don’t have to have been here before to be considered worthy of relationship. This natural care for others that is inherent in the DNA of Trinity has led our church to focus on a ministry of presence in the neighborhood by partnering with local schools to craft new ministry. We also share our building with over 20 user groups, knowing that this amazing resource of building and location is a way we can offer hospitality to others in need. We are in the process of reviving our community garden and apple orchard as we continue to think about how to be a good neighbor and share what we have with those around us. We are a community that knows we are richer because of each person’s contribution. We know that God is reflected in each one and that it is a joy when we gather together to learn, grow in faith, and celebrate God’s love.

We strive to be an inclusive, open community of faith, guided by the great commandment of Jesus: love God, love others, and love ourselves.

You are invited to share in worship, prayer, study, and working for peace with justice through outreach and service, regardless of your age, abilities, cultural identities, gender identity, sexual orientation, or theological understandings.
