This week we started our Bible in a Year project where we will be reading the bible together as a community over the coming year. 3 days in and I’m already behind. I missed day 2! But I have caught up. I’m sharing brief thoughts everyday on our FaceBook community group. If you are not a member there and would like to be included let me know and I will add you. I am really enjoying listening to the bible read on Audbile. I selected the Contemporary English Version from the American Bible Society. You can find it here and it is included with your audible membership. There are also several other versions on Audible some that you need to use a credit to access. Some have cool sound effects and famous actors! It’s a great chance to explore the bible as the early church would have experienced it through a story teller. Remember that it wasn’t until 1500’s that people began reading the bible on their own. Thanks to the printing press and expanding literacy how people accessed the bible changed.
Acts is the record of the history of the early church and the books after it are letters instructing and guiding, teaching the faithful. These were written by scribes and were then read aloud over and over again to the gathered followers of any specific church. There is something really cool about listening to these letters read out again.
However you choose to access the bible during this year I hope you find rich new insights and lots of wonderings! You can find the program details here.
