This week is Spring Break in Oregon and it is an important moment of rest. It’s been hard getting ready for it as the week after is holy week and there is so much to be done as a pastor in preparation. But rest is so important. In fact it’s biblical! Yet our society values hustle and busyness so it’s hard to remember to allow ourselves to rest. I was thinking this was a terrible time for a break, but really taking time to rest before we enter into the holy story is prefect. And in fact we see that there is a day of rest in holy week itself. We start on Sunday April 2nd with Palm Sunday- a celebration of the culmination of Jesus’ ministry. Then Jesus goes to the temple on Monday and gets mad at the people taking advantage of folks who are trying to love God. On Tuesday Jesus goes up to a tall hill and looks over Jerusalem and teaches his disciples. On Wednesday he has a day off and rests. On Thursday he celebrates passover which is a Jewish celebration of freedom. And after dinner Thursday night he goes to a garden to pray with his friends. He is arrested and by afternoon on Friday Jesus is dead. Saturday is called a holy vigil, where we sit and grieve and wait, And then on Sunday we celebrate Easter! Even within this crucial story we see rest and waiting. So this week prepare by finding spaces and time to rest!
Blessings-
Eilidh
