All summer long , from June 12th through September 4th, during our parish worship gatherings we made trees. As we focused on growth through our summer reading program and our worship themes we manifested these lessons in dirt made from ripped up paper, beads masquerading as seeds, chenille stem sprouts and buds, and paper trunks, branches, knots, raindrops, rays of sun, flowers, and fruits.
Together we wrote prayers, committed to love, thought about what we had learned, reflected on our blessings, and worked together to make something special. The trees we have would not look as they do without each person who came to worship, who cut out a leaf or twisted a bud. It is a beautiful, tangible reminder of our corporate worship. Folks online drew trees and added to them each week or created their own art in their at home worship spaces. We are going to create a slideshow of the trees’ growth, so please share any photos you have with me.
While my standing on the altar to add the elements caused some worry for folks, overall this whole process has been one of joy and creativity, a blessing to us all as we celebrate and grow together!
Blessings-
Pastor Eilidh
