Advent is a season of preparation, of waiting. For me this time of year is best celebrated by glimpsing lights in the dark, rainy nights of Portland. This is a time of stopping, of breathing. It’s a starry night sky and the silence of the woods. Advent is a hushed time of year. All of this can be counter to the holly jolly, busy, celebrations of Christmas so it’s really important to me to select music for Advent that honor the year-end need to rest and to appreciate the things we often overlook.
One of our parishioners, Amie Waters, created the most beautiful, cosmic interpretation of some of my favorite songs from Taize. I hope her pieces enrich your spiritual practice of expectancy and observation this Advent.
