In the reading Rhonda selected for this week there was a line about making love to the person you treasure. I might not have been bold enough to select this reading on ways to celebrate the joy of Christmas! I’m not sure what the conversation was with the discussion group as I had a meeting with the bishop at the same time, but I love the idea of embodied joy in all of its forms. At Christmas we celebrate that God came here to be with us in Jesus. In the flesh. So often the church has relied on ancient writings that saw the body and the world as evil, but we know there is something so powerful in nourishing our bodies with a good meal, the holy transcendence of a great nap, the sacred space of laughter shaking us, and the delight of dancing (specially when that dancing is done with our favorite 2 year old).
So this week embody joy. Feel it in your bones. Eat your favorite thing, light your favorite scented candle, delight in the flesh God entered into and know that you and your body are worthy and beloved.
