In May of 2014 we started hosting dinner church at the Sellwood Faith House. Over the years dinner has changed so much. We added music, and communion. We moved to Sunday nights from Thursdays. We’ve shifted the order of the gatherings and the themes. So many people have gathered round the table, I think the most we every had was 24 at one meal. This coming December we will end dinner church. After 10 years and 8 months it is time for the community to transition to something new. Our last dinner church gathering will be 5:30pm on December 22nd at the SFC House. We hope any who have gathered around the table join us for this celebration.
While dinner has been the most steady of the gatherings of Sellwood Faith Community, we have had so many different expressions from service projects, book studies, meditation hikes, pub theology, mom’s coffee, waling groups, and more! In the next phase of the life of the Sellwood Faith Community the current leadership will be meeting to do a cultivated ministry project, focusing on storytelling, learning, and accountability. This process will help us tell about the work of SFC and discern what the next expression will be. With a new pastor leading the community starting in July, and that person only being at the parish half time, it’s time to shift. I look forward to sharing with you the learnings of this journey that Rev. Todd Bartlett will be leading starting in January.
The whole parish has been working for months on gracefully and proactively navigating the change from full time clergy staff to half time clergy staff and really focusing on a right sized, sustainable plan for long term ministry. It has been a beautiful gift to approach these conversations centered in God’s call for us. The journey never ends, although the terrain may change. And we humbly and in joy walk it together.
Blessings, Eilidh
