Clergy date night!

I have been eating pie, salad, and breakfasts at Shari’s for decades. As a teenager it was a great, safe late night hang out spot. Our leadership team at the nonprofit where I worked in Yakima in the early 2000’s met at Shari’s monthly for lunch. In Boise we had a college age bible study every Tuesday night from 9am-11pm. We ate totchoes and drank milkshakes and navigated faith in a season of big life transitions. I’ve written sermons at Shari’s. Hung out there early in the morning when woken up by jet lag from a trip to Scotland. Jeff and I have had working dates when we were visiting mom & dad in Newberg. And of course each year on March 14th we as a family would go for pie.

I will miss this safe space for all people. A cafe with simple food, friendly staff, and a place to be any hour of the day or night. In lots of ways Shari’s is a reflection of what church can be, what community looks like.  All sorts of people. Welcome any time to gather and get what they need. I am grateful for this place to be and will continue to pray for the staff, especially those at the Milwaukie Shari’s who I saw every couple months.
