As we are refreshing the Trinity building and making changes we have furniture to repurpose. One such piece was a beautiful oak piece that had been used for decades as mailboxes for leaders and committees. George and Jean Rodway donated the piece and it has faithfully served as a vital communications link for us. Now what to do with this rather uniquely shaped shelving unit? Enter Joanna who had the brilliant idea to use it as a mug nook. On Sunday the shelving unit was placed in the Fellowship Area at the back of the sanctuary. Today it stands ready for you to bring a mug from home of claim one of the church mugs. Then select a spot, label it with your name and viola, each week your mug will be waiting for you.

This idea helps us preserve with purpose a great piece of furniture and supports us in reusing mugs rather than using disposable cups. Each person being responsible for their mug also means that the brunt of washing up on Sundays doesn’t fall on Wanda, Lacey, or I who seem to be the ones tidying up most often.

I think there is something really holy about taking something that has long served us faithfully and well and giving it a new life that fits our current needs. As people of faith we are ever on the move, following God dancing and shining through the world. That sometimes means letting go and it sometimes means creative new endeavors. This use of the shelving is a new way  care for one another and our planet. We hope you enjoy using the mug nook. Jim, Anna, & I already have spots claimed, so please join us!
