This year our theme as a community for Lent is borrowed from our siblings at the Ignatian Solidarity Network. We are focusing on Finding God in the Chaos. You can sign up for a daily online devotional here. The theme of finding God in the chaos spoke to our worship team, and then as we were contemplating resources I stumbled across the Ignatian website. This beautiful introduction to lent on the website captured my imagination

Chaotic. A word some might choose to describe the state of our world today. As we look at the global landscape, it isn’t difficult to see why—war and violence, illness and grief, economic uncertainty and fear, injustice and polarization rule the headlines and impact each of our lives in some way.

But on Ash Wednesday, a reminder: even now, says our God, return to me with all your heart.

The spirituality of St. Ignatius of Loyola asks us to find God in all things—seeing all people, things, and circumstances as gifts that can bring us closer to God.

So, yes, even now, even in the chaos, we are called to find God.

Throughout the Lenten season, writers from the Ignatian network will help us do just this—find God in the chaos. Join us each day as we dive into the story of hope, of justice, of God’s presence in a chaotic, broken world.

We are looking clearly at the world, as we continue to deal with the changes of life created by Covid. And in that clarity, in difficult conversations about our future as a faith community, in deepening relationships with one another and with God we find something holy and true.

Ash Wednesday worship begins our journey on Wednesday Feb 22nd at 7pm in the Trinity Sanctuary and on Facebook live.

We hope this season brings you comfort, clarity, and wisdom,

-Eilidh
