We often think of deserts as stark landscapes with little color, yet with just a little bit of water miraculous things happen. Suddenly animals an insects pick up activity and the plants produce flowers and seeds. Life quickens with water.

This advent we remember that we are a like a desert and God comes into our midst in Jesus Christ, quickening life and causing us to flower and thrive.

As we remember joy this week of advent we think of the places where joy has bloomed in our lives, sometimes after a long barren dry spell.

I see a new joy in our community now that many of the travel restrictions of the pandemic have eased and people are able to connect in person once again.

Where might you see in joy in places that were once dried up? Noticing such things might just help us bring the life giving water of Jesus into other barren space, which is part of our work as christians all year round!
