On October 9th as we celebrated out 1 year anniversary of joining the Reconciling Ministries Network. We had a beautiful moment in morning worship where we gathered around the prayers station at the back of the sanctuary while Caley played True Colors on the piano and we wrote on a brightly colored post-it notes the things we have learned from the LGBTQ+ community or from people who are different from us.

Some people (like a few of our kiddos) took this very literally and lifted up life lessons that specific people had taught them like don’t draw on the head rest or don’t steal rocks! I love how they saw the things they have learned so clearly from people who love them and who they love.

Here are some of the other things we lifted up: resilience, courage, to be more compassionate & empathetic, patience as I learn, how to be a great parent, just get over yourself and show up, everyone has things/abilities to offer, we all have feelings, how to love everyone, love is the universal language with no boundary, love is love is love is love is love is love, love is more powerful than hate, listening with empathy, we all want to belong, love, how much prejudice LGBTQ community feel from “straight” people, patience & empathy, we are alike but different, to have strength- to listen and be who you truly are, be good, persistence, making new friends, learning new things, zest 4 life, and felt empathy for anyone who feels isolated or alone.

What would you add to this list?
