This week it is set to be 100 degrees a couple of days.  Last year during the tragic heat wave we started putting out water for our neighbors. We decided as a parish to put out the water station any time the forecast was for 100 or hotter.  So many people from the community and our parish donated that we are able to run the water stations again this year! On Sunday several folks helped me load up the fridge and freezers at both the Trinity Building and the SFC House. Last night I set out water. We learned last year that the nights are the best time to put our water, so we begin our stations the night before the really hot day and keep them up through the night after, restocking along the way. We’ve already gone through 24 frozen bottles.

It can seem really daunting to deal with the climate crisis or to respond to houselessness in our community. Putting out water is a small way we can show love here and now. Our job isn’t to do the whole thing ourselves and thinking that actually can cause us to be come paralyzed. We are both putting out water and lobbying for laws and regulations that reduce the climate change and create better supports for our neighbors. We don’t do this work alone, but as community. Each of us doing what we can be that donating some money, helping haul water, or writing our legislator. Each of us taking steps means that before long we will have walked towards justice and love. We might not fix or solves everything, but each act, each step moves us forward in love of God and love of others.
