This week after morning worship we had a BBQ and party in celebration of our newest community member, who is just 3 months old! It was so good to eat together, visit with one another, make art for her room together, and try to guess who’s baby picture was who!  It has been so long since we’ve been able to gather like this, the time was so sweet. And after the perilous journey it took for our baby to join us it was especially sweet to welcome her in to our community!

Church is many things, and this moment of gathering was an essential part of what we as the parish know church to be. It was a sign of life after a long hard 2 years, after a long hard pregnancy, after a long hard NICU stay. This moment in the sun with our community enjoying a meal was a holy exultation of the simple goodness of life.  It was time to be savored and celebrated. This summer we’ll be doing more savoring and celebrating as we affirm that we are still called to shared life here in Southeast Portland.
