This week our Oregon-Idaho area United Methodist leaders from all churches and ministries met together. Each year we work through the business of the church, including things like approving minimum salary for pastors, voting to close churches, approving ministry candidates, and take positions on current issues.

We passed legislation affirming full inclusion of people in our churches, celebrating all trans people, advocating for immigration reform, and supporting reproductive autonomy and healthcare , among other items.

Right now when the news is filled with the “Christian” perspective on prayer on schools, abortion, and more I am so thankful that the Southeast Portland Parish is part of a wider church that holds a different perspective of who Jesus calls us to be.
