This week we get to sing some of my favorite hymns. I can remember singing these songs surrounded by people at the church where I grew up. I can picture the Garners sitting in front of us, Randy’s lovely voice ringing out. I remember Easter in Spain, the same melodies for some songs, with different words and some songs totally new to me. I can recall that gray Easter morning when we gathered at the river singing Alleluia and a young woman in distress came to us for help.

There is something so powerful about singing these songs that are sung around the world and in some cases have been sung for centuries. This week we’ll sing by the river in the cold gray light and then we’ll gather triumphantly in the sanctuary and online. Once again a new way to sing these songs, online with one another.

And we know that no matter what people will be signing these songs next year and beyond as we and others all over the world continue to celebrate the amazing joy of the Risen Christ.
