This month we began singing again. It has been so lovely. At Dessert Church our littlest member never really got to experiencing music in community as he was a baby when the pandemic began. Now as a toddler it has quickly become one of his favorite parts of church. The first week we sang Bound Together, a request from one of our members, Megan. Our wee one bopped along, but didn’t really sing. Then as soon as we were finished he walked up to Jeff and started strumming the guitar and singing over and over the words bound together. It was a beautiful reminder of the power of music.

At Morning worship we had another request from Gaye, O For A Thousand Tongues to Sing. We sang it as the postlude on the first week of congregational signing. It joyous to be singing together these old words that so many before us have sung in community. The connection to others is one key element of singing and that stretches beyond the people in the room to the many who have sung these words before and the many who will sing them in the future.

Our faith is like this, a shared, ongoing song, sung by many as we follow God and live love. It is so good to be able to express that in music once more.
