It is the week of Christmas and snow is on the way! Something that would have filled my 8 year old heart with joy fills me 44 year old head with worry. I’m thinking about our houseless neighbors, our friends who are traveling, and our own home as we once again face what might be extreme winter weather. All of that is real and important, but it’s also essential to hang on to the joy of that childlike view of snow. How it makes everything quiet, how it makes familiar landscapes so different. This is the gift and reminder of Christmas. To use our full reasoning and thinking skills to pay attention and deal with the world’s problems and to balance that with a heart of joy that finds beauty in the snowflake, promise in the rain, hope in the sunrise, and wisdom in the wind. Christ came into the world and so we know that God is with us. God is all around us. So pause this season and notice the goodness and the beauty as you also wrestle with all that is not in alignment with God’s dream for the world.

We have work to do and the strength and support to do it.

Merry Christmas!
