This past week my family was able to take a long planned trip to NYC. In the midst of my heartbreak about Afghanistan, worries about reopening schools well, personal financial issues, angst about climate change, and a growing pandemic weariness the most healing aspect of the trip were our two visits to art museums. We saw works that addressed injustice.

We saw images made millennia ago
We sat before iconic paintings

We found art that made us smile

And we got up close to incredible beauty

Art transcends. It speaks to each of us in this moment and beyond. That’s part of why we’ve asked one of our members, a talented artist, to paint the first pillar in the sanctuary. The art will speak our welcome, show a glimpse of our theology and help us to remember God with us in all ways.

I hope this images bring you some time to mediate and remember the transcendent human spirit and the God given gift of creativity, beauty, and wonder. It’s rough out there. Tend your souls!
