This week we unveiled the newly updated Memorial Room at the Trinity UMC building. This room had been very dark and a bit cluttered. After several months of cleaning and planning we began work on Friday evening.
We painted the walls a warm butter yellow, replaced the fluorescent lights with LED chandeliers, and removed the serving tables. We then added 3 counter height serving tables, created a children’s area, and rearranged the remaining furniture.
On Sunday after worship, the room was alive with energy. The kiddos stayed in the space with us instead of heading out for the sanctuary play space. They played and chatted as they enjoyed their snacks. Folks sat in the chairs by the fireplace and talked to people around the tables. The room felt big and bright. Our goal was to create a space that fit the needs of the ministries we hold in the space. On Tuesday at bible study, our 18-month-old participant was engaged in playing and eating cheerios as usual, but because of the children’s area and the new garbage can and recycling bin, we all enjoyed our time just a little bit more.
As a Parish, we are trying to thoughtfully work to be God’s people here and now. This week that was made manifest in paint and plastic furniture.
