Yesterday as we were drinking coffee and talking about life a hush fell over the room.  It was weird the way the whole coffee shop got quiet.  There were toddlers and businessmen, older ladies out for a visit, our group of moms meeting up for our weekly time of church, and several people at the counter waiting for their drinks. One of my friends said simply, “It’s ten o’clock.” And so we held the silence for as long as it stayed in the room.  Remembering what we had learned of the 17 lives lost in Parkland.  Thinking about our own children, who were all participating in walk outs at their schools.  Hoping that gun violence in our country would end.  It wasn’t planned or staged or coordinated.  It was simply this organic moment of silence in this public space.

As soon as it ended we started unpacking what we had just experienced.  It was a holy moment.  It brought us to tears.  And we had goosebumps.  I have often said that goosebumps are a sign of the holy spirit present with us. It was clear we had all touched something bigger and more powerful than ourselves in that moment.

This is what I love about this calling.  I get to be part of God at work in a coffee shop.  I get to help frame the holy moments we experience in life.  As we continue to wrestle with big issues like gun control, our kids safety, anxiety, parenting, and the rights laid out in constitutional  amendments God is with is, calling us out of ourselves.  May you have goosebump moments where you experience the awesome power of the one who is the source of all.
