April 25th was World Malaria Day. It also marked the one year anniversary of the release of the Functional Monkeys album Can You Imagine?. My daughter Paige (age 10) and I formed a band, The Functional Monkeys, and we put together a CD of original songs. We began playing concerts and raising money for Imagine No Malaria, an effort of the United Methodist church to help eradicate malaria. Its been a great year for us. We have sold a bunch of CD’s, raised over $3000 and we have performed concerts, big and small, in Oregon, Idaho, Washington and California.
We have been blessed by the support of a wonderful group of friends, fans and family. One of the great things to see is how our music has connected with people, especially kids. I never take for granted someone listening to our music or enjoying one of our concerts. Thanks to everyone who has supported us this year.
The fight to end malaria is not over and we will still be raising money. If you want to help here are a few ways.
