I am not a morning person. I am a big fan of sleep. So why do I insist on an Easter Sunrise service every year? And why do I always start it 15 minutes before sunrise, meaning this year we have to be at the park at 6am???? Because there is something so powerful in gathering in the soft light of early morning and witnessing the way the world changes as the sun rises. There is something almost quiet in our gathering, but then as the light breaks in things shift. Our chatter and our sining become louder. We get to feel in our bodies what it was like on that first Easter morning so long ago. And there is something so sacred about stopping in the middle of this bustling city to gather at the river and sing. To bear witness to love that conquers death and to proclaim that God is bigger than all evil and destruction.
Sellwood Riverfront Park at 6am is a holy place and we hope to see you there.
