Today is the first day of school in our city. My Facebook feed is full of pictures of kids ready for a new year. It is a time of starting new rhythms for families. Traffic flow in the city changes as buses navigate the streets and parents add in a stop for drop off in the morning. As the summer begins to turn to fall it is a good time to look at our life rhythms and to adjust. As the daylight dwindles this is a season when we begin focusing inward.

I have been trying to do yoga regularly, and I am working to find a way to make it party of my weekly flow. I haven’t quite found what works for me, but I am journaling every Monday morning over breakfast. It is a great way to set aside the past week and prepare for the week ahead. It’s a practice that allows me to feel grounded and to pay attention to what is going on in my own heart, mind, and soul.  I know that they yoga practice will come with some intentionality and time.

Evaluating what we need and want and then looking at ways to incorporate habits and practices into our lives is an important part of our faith journey. This fall is a perfect time as we transition into the school year rhythm to pay attention, to treat ourselves and others with grace, and to find a way to tend our souls.
